Former New England Middleweight Champion Michael “Mickey” Dwyer died November 9, 2009. He was 75. Dwyer fought professionally from 1957 – 1960 compiling a record of 14-5-1. He won the New England middleweight title on July 12, 1960 when he stopped defending champion Willie Green in the ninth round. He was a US Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict. He was also U.S. Army Lightweight Champ, 1954-1955. After his retirement from boxing in1960 he worked as an Ironworker and was the proprietor of Mickey’s Place in Fields Corner, Dorchester, MA for over 30 years.
