Anders Eklund

Former European Champion Anders Eklund died at the age of 52 on April 1, 2010.  Anders was a former two time European heavyweight champion.  As an amateur he engaged in 81 fights (66-15). He was twice Nordic champ and a member of the Swedish Olympic team in the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Anders fought for Mogens Palle in Denmark and campaigned as a professional from 1982 until 1990. In 25 professional fights Eklund won 19 times scoring 10 knockouts (5 defeats and a draw). He captured the European heavyweight title twice beating Steffen Tangstad of Norway in 1985 and Alfredo Evangelista of Spain in 1987. Among the names he came across during his years were Joe Bugner, Frank Bruno, Francesco Damiani and Tim Witherspoon. Eklund was a carpenter by trade when not boxing. Boxing Illustrated dubbed him as a “solid 10 round winning fighter”
