Lorraine Chargin, wife and an intregal behind-the-scenes partner of Hall of Fame boxing promoter Don Chargin, died Tuesday night of cancer in a hospital near their home in Cambria. She was 79.
For decades, the Chargins and the late Sid Tenner were the driving forces of boxing in the Sacramento area.
Their leadership has been responsible for not only landing major matches locally but developing numerous marquee boxers, including former top contender Pete Ranzany and ex-world champions Bobby Chacon, Tony Lopez, Loreto Garza and Willie Jorrin.
Shunning the spotlight, Chargin worked largely in the background, overseeing the financial and logistical details of fights for her husband and other big name promoters, both in the Sacramento area and other U.S. cities.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
