Neville Meade

By

Johnny Bos informed me that former British Heavyweight Champion Neville Meade of Wales passed away March 13, 2009 at the age of 61 after a losing battle with cancer.

His passing went largely unnoticed and missed appearing in the Final Bell section of the March 2009 issue of the IBRO Journal.

Neville Meade, born September 12, 1948 in Jamaica died on March 13, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. Neville fought professionally from 1974 – 1983 compiling a record of 20-13-1 (18). In 1976 he stopped Tony Blackburn in four rounds to win the Welsh Area Heavyweight Title and in 1981 he knocked out Gordon Ferris in the first round to win the British Heavyweight Title. During his career he also fought Richard Dunn, Tony Moore, Lucien Rodriquez, Alfredo Evangelista, Jean Pierre Coopman, Kallie Knoetze, Albert Syben, Denton Ruddock, and David Pearce.

From Barry Hugman: I think he died in the Swansea area but am not 100 percent sure as BN failed to report it.
