Michael F. Pusateri, 71, formally of Dedham, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Cape Cod Hospital, with his wife and five children by his side. He fought a courageous battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He was the beloved husband of Alice (Dresser) Pusateri for the past 51 years. Born in Norwood, he was the son of Catherine (DeFelice) Pusateri of Dedham, and the late Michael F. Pusateri. He was a graduate of Dedham High School, Class of 1958. Michael was recently retired from the MBTA after 25 years of service. Michael is most remembered by many as “Iron Mike.”
His boxing career began in 1961 when he won the Middleweight Division Golden Gloves Championship in Lowell. Later that year he went on to begin his professional boxing career that spanned 12 years. He traveled all over the world with his mentor, the late Rocky Marciano, and trainer, the late Allie Columbo. He was ranked in the top 10 Middleweights of the world. Michael took great pride in his boxing achievements and in the many friendships he made in the course of his career.
He was most recently an active member of many local boxing associations. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his daughter, Deborah Nauss, and husband Arthur of Ft. Myers, FL, and his grandchildren Laura, Julie, David, Matthew, and Tyler Jean; his son, Michael of Dallas, TX; son, Joseph and his wife, Christine, of Centerville and his granddaughter Erica; son, Gary and his wife, Rosario, of Dedham and his granddaughter Pamela; and son, William, of Worcester, and grandchildren Samantha and Michael. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathy Pusateri of Dedham, and Diane Savvas of Ft. Myers, FL. His sister, Joan Reagan, predeceased him.
